Continuing to enjoy Summer Program 2016 with our wonderful students and our amazing volunteers. A huge thank you to Edgebrook teachers, McHenry Public Library, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Guitar for Future Stars, NAMI and our lovely community member volunteers for helping to make this possible. Summer wouldn’t be the same without them. Come join the fun!!

Summer Program 2016 Now Open!

GQNRC is now open for Summer Program 2016! We had a very fun filled first day of Summer Program with teachers from Edgebrook Elementary School who came to make “blubber” with the kids using water, glue and borax. After that we went to the park to play with the volleyballs, soccer balls, frisbees, basketballs, and bubbles¬†ūüôā¬†Get in touch with Lupe if you would like to volunteer at our program 815-322-2357. See more photos on our Facebook page!

Community Garden Day

Parents, students, friends, staff, and our amazing volunteers got together last weekend to work on our Community Garden! We planted cilantro, onions, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, green beans, lettuce, broccoli and chives. Thanks so much to all the volunteers who are helping us get this garden started, give us a call if you also want to get involved! Check out our Facebook page for photos!

Class of 2016 Celebration!

GQNRC celebrated our Class of 2016 graduating students!! It was a night full of motivation and big dreams! To accompany us were our proud parents, our volunteers and staff who celebrated their accomplishments. We were able to hear about each of the student’s career dreams. One of the highlights of the night was when Edgar, a graduating senior, received his Garden Quarter diploma. He has been attending GQNRC since he was in first grade. His mom expressed how thankful she was for all the support her family has received throughout the years and how proud she was of Edgar. He finished his very emotional speech in the middle of cheers and claps by the other students. He certainly is a role model! Well done Class of 2016!! Visit our Facebook page to see all the photos

Parent Program Updates

During the past several weeks, we have continued to bring services to our parent group with the help of other community members and agencies. We worked with the Community Health Partnership of Illinois to talk about their services and give free glucose and blood pressure screenings to our parents.  It was a great night!

We were also very fortunate to welcome Juan Escutia from Family Service Association to talk about demystifying mental illness, coping mechanisms, and how to ask for help.  It was a great night of educational discussion!

Chapel Fundraiser

Another thank you to The Chapel of McHenry! Over the past two weekends, we worked with Mary Frank, Kate and Ted Snarski, and the Domestic Outreach Team at The Chapel to sell beautiful luminaries (made by Mary), planter pot holders (made by Ted), and golf ball ladybugs (made by our kids, volunteers, and staff) to The Chapel congregation members. I want to send an extra thank you to Mary who put a lot of time and effort into this event all to support our families and programs.  You and your group are such a blessing to our organization.  We can never say thank you enough!  Thank you to our students РKaren, Jamie, and Santana who helped us sell on the 26th!

Northern Illinois Food Bank Nutrition Program

Thank you so much to the Northern Illinois Food Bank and Jay Pniewski for coming in April to teach out students about nutrition and healthy eating Рwe had a blast!  Sponsored by the Food Bank, this program brought a chef-in-training to our site to make a dish with our students, teach them about what nutrients are contained within, and encourage them to try something new.  We welcome you to come back any time because the kids had such a great time!  Thank you so much!

Thank You to our Human Race Supporters!

A HUGE thank you to all of those who supported us in the 2015 Human Race! It was such a nice day and the kids and parents had a blast!  We are so grateful that we to participate in such a great community event and that we have the support of other members of our community! Thank you to all those who chose to sponsor a youth this year! It not only supports our youth, parents, and our programs, but also gives our students an opportunity to participate in this great event (and try and beat their time from last year!)
